Journal gives both sides of the coin

THE Journal (October 31) seems to have more good news than bad; this makes much more pleasant reading.

The headline regarding the possible £2.3m deficit in council funds with the likelihood of redundancies does not make pleasant reading but the rest of the paper contains much more lighter and positive reports.

The news that Lowestoft is to get new buses is excellent; we are certainly in need of them. The down side is that the new deckers are to be used on the X1 service leaving X2 with the older ones that go back to the 60s; not because of their longevity but for the shake-rattle-and-roll syndrome. Maybe First Eastern Counties will repent and give us X2 users a new one.

Another report is that the Marina has secured appearances of Hayley Westenra together with Jonathan Ansell; what a coup that is. We have just seen Mamma Mia! for the third time. The Marina is really doing well - well done Waveney District Council.

Finally, congratulations to the couple who have just won £100,000 on a scratchcard. There but for the grace of God go I.
