MATS THE WAY: A martial arts club has raised £6,500 to buy new mats.

The Iceni Judo Club at Waterlane Leisure Centre needed 105 high-density mats to replace their current set. Instructor Ian Castro said: 'The mats will make our training sessions at the judo club a lot safer. With 70 to 80 members coming to practice sessions each week the mats get a lot of use and we are looking forward to arrival of the new ones in a month.

'We are really grateful to all the sponsors who have generously donated funds towards the cost including councillors Sonia Baker and Peter Byatt, Lowestoft Lions, One Stop shop, Help an East Coast Child, Bird Eye Walls, Scott and Angie Miles, The Rope Charity, Suffolk Police, RAOB and the Lowestoft Charity Board.'
