Last straw

PETER Aldous thinks the population has not been alive over the last 20 years or else he believes we are uneducated enough to believe all the utter rubbish he constantly pumps out.

PETER Aldous thinks the population has not been alive over the last 20 years or else he believes we are uneducated enough to believe all the utter rubbish he constantly pumps out.

Unfortunately his latest effort appears to be the straw, which broke the camels back.

Cold weather payments. When did the Tory government start them? Certainly not in Thatcher's or Major's fiefdom. Yes, it was Blair and Brown which instituted those. Why? Mainly due to the Tory's selling off our nationalised gas, electric. water to foreigners at the same time as they closed the coal fields forcing people to change to other normal heating practices, and with three million people out of work there was no hope of either of the last two Tory governments increasing benefits. They practically went bankrupt even though they had millions from oil revenue.

I believe it was also the Thatcher government that stopped cashless pay and forced millions to accept credit cards; the slippery path to today's credit-ridden society.

One of the other steps taken was the removal of the slot meter causing people who had no back account or credit card to accept the prepayment system; by far the dearest way to pay for their fuel.

Now Mr Aldous says, and I have not heard it broached by his party's present Parliamentarians, the Tories will force the Post Office to set a new system of direct debit for these vulnerable users.

How are they going to pay direct debit in future when they cannot do so at present? These poor people do not have the where-with-all to pay bulk payments, can't Mr Aldous understand that?

This government at least try to help the poorer people in our community. I do not believe the Tories ever did, or would.
