A popular Lowestoft group has unveiled its latest venture during a successful open day.

The Suffolk Stitchers and Knitters (SSK) group, based at The Yard in Ashby Road, Lowestoft showcased the Sewing Attic at the open event earlier this month.

Susan Bowring, organiser for SSK, said: 'Preparations are well under way to get the remaining space at the Yard Project in Ashby Road knocked into shape as the Sewing Attic.

'This will provide a dedicated space for sewing enthusiasts to really get on and do their stuff – complimentary to the already successful Wool Loft on the opposite side of the landing.

'Now we can get on with making our sewn garments and accessories especially dresses and shorts, bags and needle rolls. We have a wide range of things we make, which are designed specifically to meet a need of any one of our adopted charities.'

Part of the room is providing the group with a much-needed storage facility, which includes a range of items brought in by contributors, allowing them to remain in storage until the charities that the group supports can come along and collect them.

'This is fabulous and allows us to be much more efficient in ensuring items get to where, and when, they are needed most,' Ms Bowring said.

'During the open day earlier this month it proved what a much-needed addition it was as we welcomed our every increasing number of members and guests from as far afield as Holland. We certainly enjoy some interesting conversations; and the cake is always delicious.'

Two new beneficiaries also came onboard, with the group looking forward to working with Target Match youth team and the Premature babies unit to 'make more things to meet their needs.'

If you like to knit or sew or want to learn more, while knowing you are doing something to help others, you can attend a knit stitch and yarn session on Tuesdays 1pm to 3pm and Fridays 10am to noon or call 01502 584305 for further information.

An open day will also be held on July 14, when visitors and members from across the area and further afield will meet up with each other, chat and get inspiration for a new project.

'We are doing some really good work and I am pleased to say we are steadily growing and taking over the Yard,' Ms Bowring said.

'We are very busy, busy.'
