WELLIE-clad lovers of music and the arts descended on Henham Park yesterday in anticipation for the start of this year's Latitude Festival.

The fourth year of the summer festival was set to move into full swing today as campers from across the UK and beyond were joined by more crowds of people, all ready for three packed days of music, comedy, theatre, poetry, cabaret and film.

This year organisers have again set-up a top line-up of acts as the event continues to cement its place as one of the top UK summer festivals.

Headlining the Obelisk Arena will be the Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones and Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, while one of the most eagerly anticipated performances will be a rare and exclusive solo set from Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

Yorke and Radiohead are responsible for The Bends and OK Computer, two of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time, and there is sure to be a huge turnout when he plays at noon on Sunday.

Other acts sure to draw a large crowd at the Obelisk Arena include the Pretenders, Doves and Editors, while Bat for Lashes, Spiritualized and Gossip are sure to impress with their headline sets at the Uncut Arena.

Latitude prides itself on being much more than a music festival and visitors will again be given the chance to see some of the best comedians around. Amongst the top acts lined-up are Stephen K Amos, Mark Thomas, Russell Kane, Adam Hills, Ed Byrne, Jo Brand and Sean Lock.

The cabaret arena will be led by The Whoopee Club, The Voguettes and Fat 45, the literary arena features Danny Wallace, Frank Skinner, Keith Allen and Robin Ince, while the poetry arena is headlined by Aisle 16 and Friends.

Other highlights include the Royal Shakespeare Company, a children's arena, open art and the chance to play Scrabble at Pandora's Playground on Sunday.
