As premature twin babies Samuel and Isaac Hart fought for their tiny lives in a neo-natal unit they would have had no idea that their ordeal would lead to their sister making an album.

But for Leah Hart the plight of her younger brothers always stayed with her and has now seen the youngster recoding a CD of her favourite songs to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for them.

Eleven-year-old Leah, from Southwold, took just three hours to record 13 songs for the Some of Our Favourites CD which is raising funds for the neo-natal intensive care unit at Ipswich Hospital.

Her charity album features songs from the musicals the Sound of Music and Oliver! and classical covers of tunes by Handel and Brahms.

The CD is one of many fund-raising events the Hart family have organised as a thank you to the hospital staff who cared for the premature twins who were born three months early in 2001 weighing just one and half lbs and three lbs each.

So far the family of five has raised nearly £10,000 for the unit.

Leah, who has been showing her off her vocal talents since she was five, said: “I enjoy singing so much and loved the experience of recording this CD.

“I hope that people will enjoy it and help raise money for a cause so dear to my family.”

She recorded the CD in the home of her music teacher Jean Knibbs and Leah hopes to go on to perform in a West End musical.

Her mother Clare Hart, 39, said: “Samuel and Isaac had a few struggles early on but thanks to the staff at Ipswich Hospital we now have two healthy, fun loving boys.

“We were very conscious that it costs a lot of money to look after children in the neo-natal unit and so we decided to raise as much as we can for it.

“Ever since she could speak Leah has sang. She would use to ask for biscuits by singing.

“I think it is brilliant that she has made this CD and that she is helping support the doctors and nurses who looked after her brothers.”

Some of our Favourites costs £5 and can be purchased from Little Joe's store in Reydon Road, Southwold, or from SPOTs in the town's High Street. Copies can also be ordered by calling Mrs Hart on 01502 723222.
