DAREDEVIL teddy bears of all shapes and sizes took the plunge for a good cause when they parachuted to the ground from a village church - and some had an uncomfortable landing.

The annual fund-raising event at St Mary's Church, Blundeston, was held on Saturday and Sunday and proved a popular attraction.

Young owners of the teddies held their breath as their beloved cuddly friends made the drop from the top of tower at St Mary's Church. While the majority of bears floated down in comfort, the tricky wind conditions on Sunday meant that some were blown off course and ended up trapped high in nearby holly or yew trees.

However, the 'rescue squad' sprang into action and all the teddies were safely recovered.

'The rescue party gallantly collected all the bears and one was the envy of all his friends as the 'teddy doctor' fixed a small plaster on his knee,' said Iris Mayes, one of the event organisers.

Patterns for knitted teddies were sold during the weekend and it is hoped that when the bears have been made they will be returned to St Mary's Church. The knitted teddies will be sent to the charity Teddies for Tragedies, and are used to comfort children at times of distress in disasters across the world including earthquakes and hurricanes.

The weekend also saw a flower festival in the church depicting the church year.

The beautiful floral arrangements included interpretations of weddings, baptisms, funerals and coffee mornings.

The weekend was held to raise funds for St Mary's and a final total will be announced later.
