THE hard work is now beginning as preparations for the annual Lowestoft in Bloom contest gather pace.

“Lowestoft in Bloom are now preparing for this year's competitions and we invite everyone to join us,” committee member Gloria Honeywood said.

“We rely on all the people of our town to help us with the Anglia in Bloom entry in making all the wonderful floral displays - be it gardens, in pots or baskets.”

With calls going out to more local householders, schools, businesses and firms to get involved and join in with making Lowestoft the “bloomin' best” as the town's efforts over the year form a combined push to capture the overall regional title in the Anglia in Bloom competition.

“We also need large and small businesses to make our town look more inviting to our visitors,” Mrs Honeywood said. The lack of colour in the town centre adds to the downtrodden feeling that many are experiencing during this long lasting recession - so could some of our shops consider brightening up their premises with some baskets or planters?”

Supported by Waveney District Council and Waveney Norse, the Lowestoft in Bloom's tireless committee team are keen to further promote the Lowestoft competition, as they ultimately aim for the “elusive” Anglia in Bloom Gold Award

Making a rallying call for all to back Lowestoft and improve the area as a whole, Mrs Honeywood said: “We can all help somewhere even if it is picking up litter that should not have been dropped in the first place, to planting a few plants to give it a nice positive feel about town.

“Two years ago the Railway Station looked magnificent, could it be done again, please? In fact if we all pull together I'm sure Lowestoft can win this elusive Anglia in Bloom Gold Award - so come on lets Bloomin' do it, altogether!”
