Letter of the week

I CANNOT remember any event in recent history that has brought our town together so well as the FA Vase Cup Final and it is with tears in my eyes that I write to express how much Lowestoft Football Club has achieved, not only for us and themselves, but especially on Sunday.

I CANNOT remember any event in recent history that has brought our town together so well as the FA Vase Cup Final and it is with tears in my eyes that I write to express how much Lowestoft Football Club has achieved, not only for us and themselves, but especially on Sunday.

The town had been gearing up for weeks and Sunday morning saw the culmination of all the hard work as people dressed in strange blue and white confections emerged from all corners of the town heading for coaches and trains (and by car) to the capital.

Also let's not forget the stag night party clothed in souwesters and oilskins complete with full beards: how hot must they have been in the weekend temperatures?

I listened avidly to my radio and could only imagine the heat in the stadium tempered only by the heat of the fans roaring their encouragement to every player on the field.

Micky Chapman was right when he said the fans would be the 12th man as they were behind every move made in the game.

Sadly the cup was destined to go to a different home but even then our fans were gracious in defeat applauding the other team as the final whistle sounded and not a hint of any trouble.

What more can you ask when not only did our team do us proud but our fans did too?
