THE proposed plan for a new high school in Pakefield is a good proposition because of the growing population in the area.

The site chosen is the obvious one because of the land available for the new build. Theoretically it is the ideal solution; practically it is, in my opinion, not a very good one.

At the present time, with just the middle school there, the school run causes traffic chaos, albeit for approximately an hour in the morning and again in the afternoon, but with the pupil numbers due to swell to well over a thousand the ensuing snarl-up would be prohibitive, making the traffic hold-up much longer. A staggered school closing time would have to be implemented.

Another thing that I think might cause animosity is the fact that the majority of middle school children are met by relatives while the high school students would not be. This may cause friction with the local residents. Having two schools of different age groups adjacent would, I think, not be a very good set-up.

You may also want to watch:

There are three crossings of the A12; a pedestrian crossing at the top and one at the bottom of Bloodmoor Road with a footbridge across the centre.

I think the new school could be built in the vicinity of the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate. This would not affect the residents and not accelerate the present traffic situation.
