FAMILIES could be seen foraging for clues during a special Easter egg hunt organised by the Lowestoft Lions.
Mums, dads and more than 200 children scoured Sparrow’s Nest gardens off Whapload Road to search for numbers and letters in a bid secure an Easter egg prize.
Youngsters were also kept entertained with rides, stalls and a road show at the event on Easter Sunday which was held to raise money for the Lion’s Bike Active scheme.
The project, which aims to raise £10,000 to buy specially-adapted bikes for disabled people in Waveney, was demonstrated on the day by encouraging people to take part in a bike race over 750m.
Mark Lanham, president of Lowestoft Lions, said: “We have had 248 children register for this year’s Easter egg hunt which is a record amount.
“It could be a sign of the times because what we offer is a cheap fun day.
“The event has been getting bigger every year, but it is usually down to the weather if people decide to come or not.”
As well as the activities on the day, local primary school children were challenged to draw or paint a picture depicting the Olympic games.
Lee Flint, 34, of Carlton Colville was visiting with his family. He said: “I think this event is good for families because it encourages them to be healthy and have a bit of free fun.
“It gives the kids something to do and helps support the local community.”
Meanwhile Louise Lawrence, a 26-year-old mum of three from Lowestoft, said: “When the children are on holiday they need something to exercise their brains, so this Easter egg hunt where they search for numbers and words is a good idea.
To raise more money for the Lowestoft Bike Active scheme, the Lions are holding a casino evening at the Hotel Victoria on May 11.
