And big crowds are set to flock to Oulton Broad once more on Monday for one of the biggest events on the calendar.

Lowestoft Lions are promising fun for all the family at their annual charity Gala Day at Nicholas Everitt Park.

The Lions’ main charity event of the year takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27 - and topping the bill this year is the Vander Brothers Superheroes Space Wheel stunt show.

Dressed in superhero attire, the brothers will perform death-defying stunts on both the inside and outside of

their giant quad space wheel.

With powerboat racing and the annual ‘Maiden in Distress’ raft-race on the water and a host of attractions and live entertainment in the park, a full programme of arena entertainment will include the canine antics of the popular Waggy Tails Dog Agility Display Team, the Mandarin BMX display team, the talented Venue of Performing Arts dancers and the Phoenix Karate team.

Musical entertainment on stage includes the Oulton Broads harmony group, the Lowestoft Signing Choir and Bella Tonic acapella singers. The popular Buster James Band and their support group, Stone Cold Sober, will get the park rocking into the evening, before a superb fireworks display lights up the sky at 9pm, set off from a pontoon on the Broad.

During the day there will be fun for the children with Sylvia and Russell Clarke’s K-Syl-R Roadshow doing their last ever performance, as well as donkey rides, Professor Jingles’ Punch and Judy show and a welcome new addition – Steff and her cheeky monkeys, Nonsense and Mischief.

The all-day entertainment will also include Larry Gray’s funfair, a birds of prey display and a chance to meet some of the cast of the Lowestoft Players and their Made in Dagenham 1960’s Ford Cortina – as well as the usual wide range of stalls, food outlets and a beer tent.

Nicholas Everitt Park will open at 9am and admission, including a free event brochure, costs £8 for adults and £1 for accompanied children.

There is also a signposted, free park and ride service which will depart from the Anglia Co-operative Foodstore car park in Ashburnham Way, Carlton Colville, starting at 10.30am.
