Thursday, March 26, was the annual official cut to record competition. The evening opened with the chairman announcing some forthcoming events. All trophies must be handed in for engraving. The dinner and presentation list is up in the film theatre will members please put names down as soon as possible. The film of the year competition will be drawn later in the evening. The evening proper then started with the competition with Ron Rushmere in the projection box. The three judges were Allen Pettitt, Malcolm Rose and David Bucknole. Film number one was Born Free by John Rushmere, number two Winter Time in Crarae Garden by John Barker and number three Symmetry at Blickling by Alan Ruff. All were of a very high standard and the result would be close and after the judges comments and the scores being collected by member Jim Buckenham the winner was Born Free by John Rushmere with 50 marks, Alan Ruff 48 and John Barker 46 out of a possible 60. After the tea break and raffle run by Gorden Mitchell David and Frances Bucknole with Jim and Sheila Buckenham serving the teas, it was then to look back at films of yesteryear namely What A Wonderful World, Day Of Anger Messing About On The River, Crarae Gardens In The Spring, Things That My Ears Can Do, The Old Rocking Chair, Memory, Winters Murmurs, Abbie and Autumn Leaves. The evening finished with a short version of the Steve Hewlett show filmed on Cromer pier last year by Ron Rushmere and Harold Whitewood.
