Details of the mystery walk in June were given out and a list circulated for names of those wishing to go. The speaker for the evening was Denise Bretton who brought along many of her Aloe Vera products and told the group about the many benefits from their use as alternative therapies. Competition results for the monthly competition for elderberry wine were dry, 1st Sheila Little, 2nd Beryl Rooke and 3rd Len Allen. The Broadland presentation dance was held on May 16 at Kessingland Community Centre, to announce the results and present trophies to the winners from the annual show held at Upton. It was a very good evening and entertainment was by Julie Down. The Broadland Shield was the main event, with two bottles from each club, per class entered. The result was a fantastic win for the Lowestoft club gaining 45 points, Len Allen won three first places, two second and one third, while Brian Potter for Norfolk Wine Guild gained one first, two second and two third places, with a points value of 28. Harleston club and Wortham failed to get any points. The open classes were very successful again for Lowestoft. Class five, dry and fruit, the Walpack Cup was won by Margaret Bathgate. Class eight sweet and social Gibbmarks Memorial Plate won by Beryl Rooke. Class 12 Boots Shield won by Marcella Bird. Class 16 Letty Browning Cup for liqueur was won by Peter Little. Class 18 dressed bottle won by John Rooke for his giraffe. The Cup for most points gained in classes five to 14 was won by Harleston member Alan Hider and the wine of the show by Beryl Rooke. Also in the above classes Beryl Rooke had three seconds, Pauline Crowther one second and one third, Robin Crowther two seconds, Len Allen one first and one third and Marcella Bird, Margaret Bathgate and Bob White each got a third.
