Four decades of friendship have been celebrated as visitors from France returned to Lowestoft.
Residents from the French town of Plaisir marked the 40th anniversary of their twinning with Lowestoft during a special visit, which ran from July 7 to July 12.
Overseen by members of the Lowestoft and Plaisir Twinning Association, the visit maintains a 40-year tradition which has seen hundreds of people cross the Channel. And as part of last week's visit, association members were welcomed to Great Yarmouth Town Hall by the mayor, Mary Coleman, as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations. In welcoming the guests, Cllr Coleman said: 'We have not always been so friendly towards one another: during the English Civil War, Great Yarmouth were the Roundheads and Lowestoft, the Cavaliers, but in modern times we have begun to realise that working together, collaborating, is more beneficial for both of us.'
The visitors were taken on a tour of the town hall and, with the help of an interpreter, some of its chequered history was explained.
