Lowestoft club toasts milestone

THE success of a special mug is set to be toasted once more as a limited edition celebratory cuppa was unveiled this week.

The Lowestoft Classic Vehicle Club has commissioned a commemorative mug to mark the association's 20th anniversary - a decade after their first milestone was warmly received with the creation of another limited edition drinking vessel.

And now just 20 top quality tankards out of 130 that were specially produced to mark 20 years of the club have gone on sale this week.

With a flourishing membership of 110, the club teamed up with Great Yarmouth Potteries once more to produce another stunning keepsake - and they've already been largely snapped up by club members.

'This handcrafted tankard has been handled over 37 times in various processes until it has been finished with 24 carat gold,' a spokesman for Great Yarmouth Potteries said.

'The clays and glazes are mixed by us and although each tankard looks the same each one has a slight difference ensuring that each tankard is an individual piece.'

Delighted with the finished product, former club chairman and active members Alan Summons - who helped the staff at Great Yarmouth Potteries come up with the original design for the first mug - and Geoff Bowles said: 'The mugs cost �45 each and there are many differences within each. The majority are red and brown, but very few have a light tan glaze making them all very unique limited edition collectables.'

The club meets on a monthly basis at the Parkhill Hotel in Oulton, by kind permission of David and Ruth Truman, and to thank the owners they were presented with one of the mugs - number 100.

The member's vehicles range from the 1900s to the early 1970s, with a vast wealth of motoring history.

The last 20 mugs have gone on sale at J&M Cards in Lowestoft High Street, and are available from 8.30am tomorrow.
