A student from Lowestoft College's beauty department has been honoured with a top award in a national competition- the second year running the institution has been recognised.

Ellie Glover, 18 who lives in Worlingham, travelled to Brighton to compete in the Student Electrotherapy Beauty Therapist of the Year Award (SEBTA) and was announced as the winner after impressing the competition's judges.

To qualify for the competition, each entrant had to prepare a 3000 word case study giving details of a consultation on a model, including treatments and any follow up advice to treat a particular skin complaint.

Only six people were shortlisted for the final where entrants had to perform an Ultraderm facial tailored to meet their model's skin type.

The students, together with their lecturers and the judges were also invited to the Grand Hotel in Brighton, the day before the competition, for a gala dinner.

Miss Glover said: 'SEBTA 2015 was a wonderful experience and I am honoured to have been a part of it. I would advise any student who wants to gain confidence and skills as an electrotherapist to enter as you learn so much over the process of the competition.

'Winning first place at SEBTA 2015 was incredible but even getting through to the finals was an amazing opportunity. The experience is once in a lifetime. I would advise all students to enter!'

Kellie Bramwell, winning lecturer from Lowestoft College, said: 'All of the Beauty Therapy department and the whole of Lowestoft College are so very proud of Ellie's achievement and success and we feel so privileged to be part of such a prestigious competition.'

Miss Glover followed in the footsteps of Jessica Jackson, who won the title in 2014 while she was a student at Lowestoft College.

As well as winning the title and taking home the prestigious SEBTA 2015 trophy, Miss Glover walked away with £500 and a Carlton machine. Her lecturer Kellie Bramwell received £250 and Lowestoft College received £1000 to spend with the competition's sponsor Carlton.
