TWO policemen were seriously injured in a crash in Lowestoft in the early hours of this morning.A marked police van had been following a silver Mitsubishi Evolution which had failed to stop for officers on Belvedere Road.
TWO policemen were seriously injured in a crash in Lowestoft in the early hours of this morning.
A marked police van had been following a silver Mitsubishi Evolution which had failed to stop for officers on Belvedere Road. Officers lost sight of the Mitsubishi and when they regained sight of it, it was found to have been in collision with a marked police car on Tom Crisp Way.
Four men, including the two officers, were trapped following the crash, which happened at about 1.45am. The road was closed following the incident, before being reopened at about 9am.
Four ambulances were called to the scene, and fire crews called to the scene freed the men, who were taken to James Paget University Hospital, at Gorleston. The two policemen are said to have injuries that are serious but not life-threatening.
One of the two other casualties is believed to have serious injuries and the fourth man has suffered less grave injuries.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said a 28-year-old man from the Great Yarmouth area had been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and is currently in hospital.
She added that the incident will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for further consideration.
