BELEAGUERED bus passengers are finally set to get protection from the elements at one of Lowestoft's biggest supermarkets after an agreement was reached over the provision of a new shelter.
Waveney MP Bob Blizzard has been battling for more than six months to ensure shoppers at Tesco, in Leisure Way, can wait in comfort for First bus services.
First has refused to let its buses stop at the old shelters because of safety fears following a change to the layout. It left passengers having to wait at a temporary stop at the top of Leisure Way.
However, Mr Blizzard said he had been assured Tesco would now look at upgrading its bus stop lay-by, including a longer bay and space for three buses to wait without blocking other traffic.

Mr Blizzard said: 'I'm pleased that common sense has prevailed and a solution has been found. Lots of people use the bus stop at Tesco. Customers of First Bus and Tesco deserve better than waiting for buses on top of a rise, exposed to wind and rain.'
