A Freemasons unit based in Lowestoft is presenting a rescue craft to the town's Volunteer Lifeguard Corps after donating over £1,000.
The Freemasons of Orient Lodge, in The Avenue, will present the boat at 11am on Sunday, July 16 in front of the lifeguard station.
‘The Boy Ian’ - named in memory of Ian Paterson, former Master of the Lodge, is a dedicated rescue ski designed for use by trained lifeguards.
Jan Paterson recalled that her husband greatly admired the work of the Lowestoft Volunteers Lifeguard Corps.
“It was his specific wish that the craft be presented,” she said.
The craft is being placed in service in time for the start of the summer season and will assist in the work of providing safety cover for all water users.
Further funds raised by Orient Lodge have enabled the purchase of a defibrillator and a training unit.
