Students from a Lowestoft high school enjoyed experiencing a foreign culture as a trip to France was hailed a success.
A group of 17 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 from Ormiston Denes Academy in Lowestoft embarked on an unforgettable experience recently with a week-long residential trip to South West France.
The students set off on an 18-hour coach and ferry trip to participate in a variety of outdoor and adventurous activities, such as water sports and mountain biking.
The trip was organised in partnership with Rockley, a sailing and adventure company. The children took part in three sessions a day of activities, which included sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing and mountain-biking.
The students also visited the largest sand dune in Europe, with the Pyrenees in full view, and even had the opportunity to sample delicacies such as frog’s legs and snails. Throughout the trip the students had the chance to try out their language skills with trips to the beach and town nearby.
Year 8 student Aiden said: “It was fantastic - please let us go again next year,” while Jodie, also a Year 8 student, added: “It’s a trip I will remember for a very long time!”
Stuart Aldous, assistant principal at Ormiston Denes Academy, said: “The students rose brilliantly to the challenges involved in this trip. Students experienced a foreign culture, language and currency while developing their personal and social skills through adventurous activities.
“The main benefits to the students were experiencing culture from another country, travelling abroad - many for the first time - camping, and participating in water sports and outdoor adventurous activities. Pupils pushed themselves physically to their maximum potential and grew throughout the week. We hope to take the trip again next year.”
Ormiston Denes Academy are looking to organise a trip abroad in 2019 and are looking for sponsors to support and contribute to the costs. If any businesses or alumni are interested, please email email@example.com
