POLICE investigations were continuing this week in connection with two incidents in Lowestoft involving a knife-point robbery and arson.

On Tuesday three masked robbers - who were armed with a knife - raided the Premier Shop, on The Green, off Pinewood Avenue, around 9.20pm.

They threatened the shopkeeper with the knife before hitting him and fleeing with an unknown amount of cash from the till.

The shopkeeper was left shaken by the incident but was not hurt.

The robbers are described as wearing masks, black trousers and black jackets, and two were wearing gloves.

A police spokesman said that CCTV footage taken from cameras located near the shop is currently being examined by officers and that investigations into the incident are continuing.

She added: 'We are keen for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen anything prior to the incident, or any suspicious activity in the area around the Premier Shop, to get in touch with us as soon as possible.'

Vandals were being condemned after they torched hundreds of plants being grown for summer displays across Waveney while a shopkeeper was forced to hand over cash after he was threatened with a knife and hit by a gang of masked robbers.

Intruders targeted the Waveney District Council-owned nurseries in Monckton Avenue, ripping out bedding plants and setting fire to the main potting shed, which was burnt out, and two greenhouses that were severely damaged.

About 200 grown plants were destroyed and seeds were also lost as two crews from Normanshurst fire station were called out to tackle the blaze at around 2.15am on Friday.

Crews spent almost two hours tackling the blaze and a council spokesman said: 'We are extremely disappointed at the actions of those involved.

'As well as damaging the property, they have shown a blatant disregard for the hard work of the team at the nursery and have destroyed many of the plants they were preparing for the enjoyment of everybody this summer.

'Police officers from CID and forensics have attended and investigations are ongoing,' the spokesman added.

Anyone with information on either incident should call Lowestoft police on 01986 835300 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
