BACK IN SERVICE: After almost six months of being stripped down, serviced and painted, the Lowestoft lifeboat is back at its mooring in the town's harbour.
The Spirit of Lowestoft returned home last Friday following a full �190,000 service and refit at Goodchild Marine, in Burgh Castle… and it was soon back in service with a call-out on Sunday. It was stripped right down to an empty hull and then all of the thousands of fixtures and fittings were checked, cleaned and changed.
One of the two engines was replaced and the vessel was spruced up with eight coats of paint before being carefully put back together and taken on sea trials.
While the Spirit of Lowestoft was out of action, a reserve vessel - the Lord Saltoun - took its place and it will now go to Levington, near Ipswich, until needed elsewhere.
Lowestoft Lifeboat operations manager Richard Musgrove said: 'It is great to get the town's lifeboat, Spirit of Lowestoft, back from Goodchild Marine, after all their hard work. She is really looking good after such a thorough refit and paint job. I know the crew are thrilled to have our boat back at the station.'
