A burglar who broke into the home of a 91-year-old Pakefield woman while she was asleep was arrested after his blood was found on a cushion, Ipswich Crown Court was told.

The woman, who lives in a cottage near Pakefield Church, went to bed at 9.30pm on June 21 last year and woke later to find a television set had been taken from her living room.

Blood found on a cushion at the property matched the DNA of 37-year-old Keith Grout of Kirkley Cliff, Lowestoft.

Appearing in court on Friday, Grout admitted burgling the woman's house and was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and made the subject of an alcohol treatment requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £300 compensation.
