A Lowestoft man will be taking the plunge as he abseils down the side of the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel this month to raise money for London's Air Ambulance.
Ben Cronin, 22, is embarking on his scariest and biggest fund-raiser yet – as he takes on the challenge of a 270ft abseil in June.
He said: 'I know many people will wonder why I am doing it for a charity that is not local to Suffolk however the amount of people reading this who visit London, or just travel along the M25, this service will come to you in your hour of need. I have also seen the amazing work this service has done with a friend from University who had been a passenger on the train at Kings Cross in the London Bombings in 2005 but also when I witnessed an accident on the tube last year when a gentleman fell under the train and I feel that I can do so much to help raise funds for a second helicopter for this life-saving service.'
The service operates 24/7 but receives no government or national lottery funding relying solely on donations. Money raised will go to funding a second helicopter to provide urgent care to victims of serious injury – as London is one of the largest cities in the world with just one helicopter.
