OFFSHORE powerboat racing, which has taken place off Lowestoft beach in recent years on the weekend following the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, will not be returning this summer.
Powerboat P1 management, which runs the Superstock championship, took over the former Honda F4SA races last year. Now the company has announced that it will not be hosting a race in Lowestoft this year.
It had been hoped that the event would return to Lowestoft as race officials met representatives from Waveney District Council earlier this month.
This year's new Superstock venues are Penzance in Cornwall, Galway in Ireland, Pwlhelli in Wales and a season finale on the south coast. There are also races at Split in Croatia and in Sweden.
However the organisers have not ruled out the possibility of the event returning to the resort in the future.
Sam Feasey, from Powerboat P1, said: 'We wanted it in July this year and the airshow is in August. However, discussions with the council were very positive and we are keen to continue with negotiations for next year.'
