A museum, which collects, preserves and displays objects relating to the history of the area and its people, has marked 'a very good season.'

Lowestoft Museum, which is housed inside Broad House within the grounds of Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad, welcomed almost 10,000 visitors this year.

A spokesman for Lowestoft Museum said: 'In spite of Easter being later this year, some 9,730 visitors passed through Lowestoft Museum this year – an increase of 5.8 per cent on last year's figures.

'Visitors came from as far away as Japan, The Falkland Isles and Australia and there was a noticable increase of local people. There were a number of events at the museum including the family day with slideshows as well as the Heritage open Day, which were all well supported.'

Lowestoft Museum was also awarded the Accreditation Scheme certificate, and was shortlisted for museum of the year.
