Workshop reveals ‘interesting approaches’ as museums share good practice

Volunteers from two popular museums got the chance to learn new skills and share ideas at a special event.
The Lowestoft Museum and Lowestoft Maritime Museum volunteers enjoyed a visit to Norwich Castle as part of a workshop organised by the Making Waves Together project.
After working with new partners in 2018 – such as Dance East, The Poetry People and Suffolk ArtLink – the museums were keen to try out imaginative and flexible ways to interpret their own unique collections.
During the workshop the volunteers explored, among other topics, how to engage with star objects in their museums.
Patricia Day, Seaside Heritage Officer for Making Waves Together, said: ”The informal hands-on activities in the workshop revealed some interesting approaches and several volunteers reported that it was helpful to exchange ideas with members of other museums.”
The workshop is part of a continuing learning and development programme and the volunteers are looking forward to showing off their new skills when the museums reopen in the spring.
