POLICE are stepping up patrols in Lowestoft, with more officers being brought in to assist, as detectives continue to hunt for thieves believed to be responsible for more than 150 house burglaries and attempted burglaries since before Christmas.

With warnings going out to householders people are today being urged to help play their part in beating the burglar.
In the period between December 23 and April 20 there have been 169 house burglaries and attempted burglaries recorded across the town.
The latest figure comes almost two months after 91 incidents had been reported to police. And now with an additional 79 burglaries being investigated since February 23, work is continuing to target those responsible - with 33 house burglaries having occurred in the past two weeks alone.
Police called on residents to be 'vigilant' and police press officer Anne-Marie Breach said: 'Work is ongoing to target the offenders for these offences but we would urge anyone who sees someone acting suspiciously or notices anything suspicious to call police immediately using 999. This could include noticing someone in a neighbours back garden, seeing one or more people hanging around a property or spotting someone carrying electrical items for example.'
Among the 17 house burglaries being investigated from last week - the highest recorded figure in one week since February 17 to February 23 - an 18-year-old man has been charged for a burglary in Denmark Road and two 17-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with break-ins at Borrow Road and Carlton Road.
Other crimes were reported between April 14 to April 20 in Yarmouth Road, Hervey Street, Gondree, Long Road, John Street, Jacobs Street, Laxfield Way, Queens Road, Laurel Road, High Street, Holbein Way, Wissett Way, Wannock Close and Springfield Gardens.
