AFTER months spent collecting old mobile phones and empty ink cartridges, schoolchildren in Lowestoft have seen their recycling efforts pay off with money for their school to spend.
Pupils at Dell Primary School have been recycling unwanted phones and old cartridges since the summer and yesterday (Tuesday) the school was presented with a cheque for �164 to mark its hard work.
Headteacher Beryl Hindes said: 'We are delighted to receive this cheque, and taking part in the recycling scheme was really simple.
'Everyone at the school has been involved and we will keep collecting. It has been a great way to promote the importance of being green and raise extra funds too. By allowing the school council to decide what to spend the money on means that the children feel really involved.'
The scheme, run by Norwich-based RPC Recycle, is a national fundraising programme which is operated by Waveney Norse and Waveney District Council in the Lowestoft area.
