Current birthdays were announced and the minutes of the April meeting were read by Ken Renshaw, agreed and signed by the chairman. Wally Parnell read a letter of thanks from Margaret Hill for the bouquet of flowers she received at the recent successful chairman's lunch. Wally, the new magazine editor, appealed for magazine contributions and treasurer Tim Macer gave the financial report. Reg Blacker, speaking for the bowls section said the summer programme would begin on May 4 at the Sparrow's Nest. Ken announced that there were still places available on the Regents Canal trip and the two-day visit to Windsor Castle, and that all members had been invited to join Waveney Probus Ladies for their May 20 lunch event. Derek Leak showed a framed picture of Charles Cudmore which he was going to present to Joan Cudmore, and all members expressed their good wishes. The raffle followed after which Peter Parker, chairman and custodian of the Lowestoft Maritime Society presented a short history of the formation of the society in December 1958. The vote of thanks was given by Bill Pryke. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 5, when speaker Richard Graves' will talk on the history of railways in Britain.
