At their latest meeting members welcomed speaker Doreen Samkin who gave a talk on her years as a tea planter's wife in Assam, India. As a young bride from a conventional local background she suddenly found herself having to adjust to life with no modern household conveniences but with 22 servants. However, she quickly adapted to conditions, coping with such hindrances as the hot, humid climate and keeping a supply of serum always to hand in case of potentially fatal snake bites. Doreen was warmly thanked by Olive Bass.

Raffle winners were Jean Davies and Joy Russell. The next meeting will be held on April 21 when singing duo Myrtle and Len will be making a welcome return visit.
