The chairman's first duty was to ask members to stand in memory of Walter Gill whose funeral the committee and a number of members attended Walter was a respected colleague and have been a member of the club from January 1996. It was reported at his funeral that on leaving school, he said to his parents that the didn't want to work in an office - it was ironic therefore that he spent his whole life, including service in the Navy, doing just that - he will be greatly missed.

In sick reports secretary, Wally Parell reported on the progress of Malcolm Battrick, treasurer Tim Macer had been in touch with Stewart Sage who was at home but unable to attend meetings and it was reported that Jo Shaw, the widow of a former member has passed away.

Doug Ewells reported on sightings of the rare elephant hawk moth.

The current birthdays of Terry Kelly, David Wright and Harry King Gardner were announced and applauded.

Secretary, Wally Parnell reported that the club magazine would shortly be ready and drew members attention to the fact that the next club meeting of July 21 would be an announcement of an update to the club's constitution, followed by entertainment.

He also announced that copies of the National Probus Magazine were now available. Treasurer, Tim Macer announced the current club's financial report.

The ex social secretary Ken announced the forthcoming Living History of Lowestoft on July 11 in the town centre and reported on the success of the recent Lowestoft fish fair which had been held in Southwold. A committee meeting will be held on July 14 to finalise details of the club's garden party on August 11 at the Parkhill Hotel.

Alan Coleman thanked members for their interest and messages during his recent spell of bad health and praised the club for its friendship and support. He also drew attention to a fair, in aid of the Lowestoft palliative care unit, which is to be held on July 18 at the United Reform Church, London Road North.

The raffle and refreshment break followed after which the speaker for the day was Ron Keveren.
