A volunteer lifeboat crew were called into action after a Dutch yacht became tangled in fishing gear off Southwold.
Lowestoft’s RNLI lifeboat, Patsy Knight, was launched at 7.15am this morning (Monday, July 2) after the lone crewman aboard the yacht got into difficulty.
Lifeboat coxswain John Fox said: “We were sent to help the single handed crewman on the yacht that had left Lowestoft at 3.45am this morning.
“It had sailed to a position 13 miles east north-east of Southwold when his vessel became snagged in fishing gear - which stopped his progress.
“However while we were making headway to his location, we received a radio message from the UK Coastguard to say that the sailor had managed to clear the obstruction and that after checking that no damage had been caused, was happy to continue his journey.
“We were stood down and returned to our mooring.”
