A local armed forces members’ group is seeking to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War with a special event later this year.

One hundred years ago in November 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front and the war to end all wars was at an end. It was a war that touched almost every family in the UK and beyond within the Commonwealth.

And as we approach the 100th Remembrance Day service, the Lowestoft and District Branch of the Royal Engineers Association are planning to hold a commemorative dinner in early November this year. They are inviting all veterans and their partners to join them, to remember and honour those that gave their lives.

The event is open to all veterans of all forces, whether belonging to an association or not. Military associations’ members are being contacted accordingly.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to email David Ormsby at Ormsby459@gmail.com, Kevin Smith at Kevin.Smith@landmarc.mod.uk or call Steve Ardley on 07828135819.
