A LOWESTOFT school, which closed yesterday following a contamination scare, has reopened today (Friday).

Parents were asked to collect pupils from Elm Tree Primary School, on Ranworth Avenue, early yesterday afternoon after a routine check found contamination in the water system.

Fears were raised that the water might not be safe for the youngsters to drink after a high bacteria count was found during checks.

With no reports of illness caused by the contamination, about 150 pupils were sent home. But with the water system flushed out after this, the youngsters were back in the classroom today.

'The school is back open as normal after routine checking and precaution,' a spokesman for Suffolk County Council said.
