The Seagull Theatre in Lowestoft is set to open for an evening in September to celebrate the work local artists have completed over the lockdown period.

Over lockdown, staff from the theatre have been working with the Arts Council to fund a series of commissions for local artists who lost their usual work at the height of the pandemic.

Each performer was given the brief to create a short film during their time in lockdown and the results will be shown to the general public for free on September 24.

The short films range in genre offering everything from poetry, to music and experimental art.

One short film, titled “Freedom of the People,” created by Mark Finbow, has already won an award at the “Beyond the Curve International Film Festival.”

A spokesperson for the theatre said: “Actors, writers and other performers have all suffered from a sudden loss of work in the pandemic, and our commissioning programme was a small attempt to support this important cultural group.”

Tickets for the event can be bought from the website here.
