Rebekah Bowditch, 21, from Lowestoft, has found a new spring in her step after losing 13 stone and 9.5 pounds - and says she can still eat her favourite foods like burgers and curries.

Ms Bowditch, who joined a Slimming World Group in Carlton Colville, is celebrating her incredible success after being placed in the diet and weight management group’s top eight young slimmers of the year.

When she first joined Slimming World, Ms Bowditch weighed 25 stone and 6 pounds, but now weighs 11 stone and 10.5 pounds after making a number of changes to her diet and exercise regime.

She started her weight loss journey to feel more comfortable with her size, saying: “I knew my weight was an issue, and I was starting to become increasingly unhappy. I would feel uncomfortable in my clothes and I’d started to make excuses not to go out with my friends because I often felt self-conscious.”

But now Ms Bowditch says she feels healthier and happier than ever.

She said: “I am doing things now that before I lost weight, I didn’t think were possible. I’ve started Aquasize, Zumba and spin classes with some other members of my group. I joined the gym with my boyfriend and have started cycling and running, using the Couch to 5k app. I feel so much better for it.”

Describing the ‘Food Optimising’ method she followed, she said: “I can still eat all my favourite foods like burgers, chips, curries and chocolate – I’ve just learnt how to prepare and cook them in a healthier way now. I feel as though I’ll be able to keep up this healthy way of life forever – which is something I never thought I would say.”

For her incredible success, Ms Bowditch was nominated by those at her support group as Slimming World’s for Young Slimmer of the Year.

Despite not winning the accolade, Ms Bowditch placed in the top eight and met Olympian and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith.

The gymnast said “the changes that Rebekah has made to turn her life around are nothing short of remarkable. It just goes to show that with the right support and mindset, anything is possible.”
