'Although in several of the cases above the bikes had been left locked up, many recent thefts have occurred when bikes have been left unlocked in front or back gardens so please don't leave your bike lying around unlocked and unattended - particularly at your home address,' a police spokesman said. 'Please remember to postcode your bike, try to store it out of view and secure it to something solid at all times, preferably locked inside a secure and alarmed shed if possible.'
