A weekend of free family events and activities will take centre stage as a popular festival returns next weekend.

The James Bond Spectacular will headline two full days of entertainment as part of this year's Lowestoft Summer Festival.

Songs from the 007 movies will echo out as an open-air evening concert is showcased on the Royal Green next Saturday, as a group of the UK's leading musicians present iconic music from James Bond films.

The Bond themes will be performed by top musicians from leading orchestras alongside the stunning vocals of Kerry Schultz at 7.30pm on July 21.

The festival weekend on July 21-22 is now in its fourth year and will also include the popular food fair on the promenade from 10am to 5pm on both days.

Summer Festival chairman Mark Lanham said: 'A full programme of stage entertainment on Royal Green has been planned for the weekend – with a variety of market and craft stalls, a museum marquee, representatives from the voluntary sector and community groups, sports demonstrations and a children's zone.

'On Saturday the Lowestoft's Got Talent competition finalists will be judged, with 10 acts competing for the top prize. On Sunday the entertainers include Norwich Samba band, choirs, drama groups and theatre schools.'

Parking is available at pay and display car parks along the seafront, at Clifton Road car park and Belvedere Road car park.

On the sands south of Claremont Pier, a sandcastle building record attempt will take place next Saturday at 6pm – as the bucket and spade brigade try to beat 1,574 sandcastles built in an hour. A call has gone out from the sandcastle organisers, Lowestoft Lions, to all to attend this evening of fun with everyone encouraged to bring a bucket and spade to try to topple this record.

On Sunday, July 22, at 11am, Lowestoft Lions are also seeking people with creativity and a talent for originality who can create a prize winning sandcastle or sand sculpture at the same venue. Teams are limited to a maximum of six members and each will have a 12ft x 12ft plot of sand on which to construct their design. There will be three cash prizes of £75, £50 or £25 – with the winners receiving the Lowestoft Sandcastle Festival Trophy for the best creation.

'We'll be able to give them advice, hand out useful information and signpost them to the services that can best meet their individual needs. Everyone is welcome.'
