Lowestoft Town manager Dale Brooks admitted he 'honestly can't say' who will be available for the next match after his team slumped to defeat against basement side Burgess Hill Town.

Visiting keeper James Shaw did not have to make a meaningful save all afternoon – and Brooks was unhappy with the way in which his side conceded their goals, despite Travis Cole's late penalty.

'It was a tough afternoon – we had a go and created a few chances, but unfortunately we have conceded from two set-plays,' admitted Brooks, whose team face a trip to Folkestone Invicta on Tuesday night.

'We said at half-time that while it is 1-0 we are still in the game, but unfortunately when our chances came, we didn't take them.

'At the end of the day, we are bringing boys in who are playing for nothing - probably not consistent at this level - but we've got no other option.

'We go again on Tuesday, but I honestly can't say who is going to be in the team.

'We are not competitive at this level with the way things are going at the moment, but we are honest, we work hard and we will try and create things.'

Despite the defeat, Brooks remained optimistic but is predicting the relegation dogfight may go down to the final few games of the campaign before anything is decided.

'It will go right to the wire,' Brooks added.

'We have got to just take each game as it comes and have the belief that we can pick up points.

'Yes, we may have to concern ourselves with other people like Tooting and Burgess Hill, but we still have got a lot of games to try and win. I have got total respect for anyone who pulls on the shirt for us at the moment - they are giving their all and that's all we can ask from them.'

The match was played out in front of a crowd of 524 at the Amber Dew Events Stadium, with the supporters rallying around to support their team at the business end of the season.

'I would have been disappointed had the crowd not been around the 500 mark, but we have got to try and get as many people to come and help us to survive,' added Brooks.
