Lowestoft Town FC calendar nets a big sum for charity

SAUCY snaps of Lowestoft Town’s players, management and officials have been proving a big hit – and helping raise thousands of pounds for charity.
The Trawler Boys bared all for a special calendar, which was unveiled as part of an effort to raise funds for, and awareness, of Prostate Cancer.
And this week, the calendar’s organiser Mike Willgoss, revealed that almost 1,000 copies had already been sold in just over two months.
With prostate cancer one of the commonest forms of cancer in men in the UK, the Lowestoft Town FC prostate cancer appeal fund was established earlier this year.
Blues fan Mr Willgoss – a former prostate cancer sufferer himself – approached Lowestoft Town chairman Gary Keyzor with a view to supporting the calendar idea, and, after teaming up with photographer Andy Bastow, various images of the Town favourites were taken in different poses at landmarks in the town ahead of publication of the 2011 calendar.
Mr Willgoss said he had been kept busy by selling the calendars at various outlets around Lowestoft.
“The calendars are going well and with donations from the public I am very pleased,” he said. “We have just done three Saturdays in the Britten Centre, a Saturday in Morrisons and last week in Asda.”
Next Saturday, November 13, Mr Willgoss will be selling the calendar in Marks and Spencer, with the help of youngsters from Lowestoft Town’s under-15 side.
“The following Saturday we will be back at Wilkinsons store, and then back in Asda on December 4,” Mr Willgoss said. “I am also looking for other venues in the town for people to either sell the calendar for me on my behalf or allow me into the store to sell them – which I would very much appreciate.”
The calendar is also available from Lowestoft Town FC headquarters at Crown Meadow, the Marina Theatre, The Journal office in London Road North, Wilkinsons, Godfreys, T&A Embroidery in Bevan Street East, Browston Hall Country Club, Winelodge wine bars or by telephoning Mr Willgoss on 01502 564337. All proceeds go to the club’s appeal.
l For more details about the calendar, which costs £5.95, or to offer a venue as a sales point, email Mr Willgoss at firstname.lastname@example.org or ring him on 01502 564337.
