LOWESTOFT Town Football Club chairman Geoff Price has resigned.

In a statement on the club's official website Mr Price said the decision to leave was not taken lightly but blamed issues relating to “certain banned supporters and members”.

“I will be standing down as chairman with immediate effect.

“It is not a decision that was taken lightly but one which was taken for the best interest of both the club and myself,” said Mr Price.

“Regrettably, the club has issues relating to certain banned supporters/members, and these people have attempted to interfere with my business, and have impacted heavily on my own personal life in ways that have become unacceptable.

Primarily, this is what has forced my resignation,” he said.

Mr Price said he left the club in a sound financial position, with no long-term debts, and with all overdrafts cleared.

“Accounts now possess a sufficient balance to ensure the long-term stability of the club, something what was not the case when I took on my role as chairman,” he said.

The club committee will meet on Monday, June 30 when a new chairman is expected to be appointed and in the meantime Mr Price has said he will stay on “behind the scenes” to honour all obligations until a replacement has been found.

“I leave the club with many happy memories, and am proud to have been involved in its running. It is my intention to remain involved in the short-term behind the scenes, and to continue to support the blub, both as a supporter, and financially through sponsorship in the coming year.

“I would like to thank all those involved in bringing me into the club, and for their support during my time as chairman, and wish the club every success in the future,” said Mr Price.
