Officials have hailed the 'tremendous' efforts that have been made to improve a non-league football club's financial situation.

And as Lowestoft Town FC enter a crucial phase of the season, with 11 Evo-Stik Southern League Central matches to play, a rallying call has gone out to the community to back the Trawlerboys in the final two months of the campaign.

Of the remaining games, 19th placed Lowestoft have six home matches to play at the Amber Dew Events Stadium – starting on Saturday against league leaders Kettering Town.

With the club having made 'huge inroads' into clearing a significant amount of debt, Lowestoft's directors are hoping that supporters will return to the club and get behind the players in the run-in.

A supporters meeting in June revealed the club's financial situation and the plans to move Lowestoft forward.

Lowestoft Town finance director Mark Kemp said: 'In the space of nine months we have made huge inroads into the debt, which have exceeded expectations.

'The supporters group has been fantastic in raising funds, we've been careful with what we spend and we have had superb support from our sponsors, advertisers, local companies and suppliers.

'It has been a tremendous coming together for the good of the club, and everybody has worked tirelessly together to make a massive difference.

'We have paid up all of what we owed and while it will probably be around midway through next season that the level of debt is fully cleared the support has been brilliant across the whole season.

'After the supporters' meeting in June, where the financial situation was revealed to fans, Paul Whitlow and Malcolm Banner paid for a couple of the floodlights.'

The only downside has however been a drop in attendances. Of the 16 home league games Lowestoft have played this season they average 350 fans, which is the eighth best in the division according to the Evo-Stik statistics.

Stourbridge top the attendance charts with an average of 726 fans watching their 17 league games this season.

Mr Kemp added: 'We just need the fans now to come through the turnstiles. We have six fantastic home games left so get back to the club, turn up and be loud and proud.

'Kettering are expecting to bring up to 100 fans with them on Saturday, so it would be great to have a good turnout of Lowestoft supporters.

'Jamie, Andy and the players have done fantastically well – the quality of football played this season has been tremendous.'
