ORGANISERS of a popular Lowestoft tradition are hoping for a record number of festive swimmers to brave the conditions tomorrow (Christmas Day).

Calling on people to 'make the splash for cash,' the annual Christmas Day swim is set to see hundreds plunge into the icy North Sea waters for charity.

Now in its 32nd year, the Lowestoft event is one of the biggest festive day dips, with swimmers expected to enter the water at 10.30am on the south Lowestoft seafront while the crowds cheer them on close to the Hotel Hatfield.

With an estimated 150 people taking part in last year's swim, raising more than 12,000 for charities across Waveney, the call is for more entrants this year.

'Don't be a Scrooge this Christmas - be a Yule-Tider!' organiser Lawrence Chapman said.

Hoping that a record number of swimmers will each raise 100 in sponsorship money, the swim committee is hoping that a record 250 people will take part tomorrow.

'There's always a warm welcome and never a cold shoulder to anyone wanting to take part - no matter what the temperature of the sea,' Mr Chapman said. 'We are working hard to make the swim a big success and raise thousands for our local community.'
