It may have started out as a pipe dream.
But a project to restore an historic pipe organ at St Mark's Church in Oulton Broad has become a reality.
And the culmination of the £30,000-plus project will be marked tomorrow and Sunday with a celebratory weekend of music, as the restored organ returns to St Mark's.
A church spokesman said: 'The restored organ at St Mark's is visually very beautiful, as well as sounding great.'
Described as an instrument of 'considerable historic and musical importance,' the organ was built by J W Walker in the 1850s.
It was enlarged when it was rebuilt in 1949 by the organ building firm Hill, Norman and Beard.
The cost of restoring the organ came through fund-raising concerts and some very generous donors who sponsored an organ pipe each. The restoration was undertaken by Holmes and Swift of Fakenham.
A concert will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow at St Mark's by the girls and men of Norwich Cathedral Choir. There will also be organ solos by the Cathedral organists. Tickets are £10 each, concessions £7.50, via 01502 514774, or on the door.
On Sunday, from 2pm to 5.30pm, there will be live musical performances. Entry is free but donations are welcome. This is followed at 6pm by an informal Songs of Praise service.
