FOUR popular open spaces in Waveney have now been set up for orienteering, thanks to a Lowestoft School.
Staff and pupils at the Ashley School worked with Waveney District Council and others to map and set up the courses, adding permanent markers that will enable them to be used for the sport throughout the year.
The newly mapped-out courses are at: Normanston Park, Lowestoft (which has 15 markers); Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad (15 markers); Corton Cliffs (10 markers) and Beccles Common (15 markers).
Orienteering is a sport that relies on participants using detailed maps to navigate their way around a course.

Lawrence Chapman, deputy head at the Ashley School, said 'Orienteering is such a flexible way of learning and have fun. We think that lots of schools and organisations could make use of these courses.'
To enable more people to get involved, Ashley School is offering a free half-hour training session on Thursday from 4.15pm until 4.30pm at school. This will show people how to access the maps and make use of the courses.
