A 53-year-old man sustained swelling and bruising to his eye after he was assaulted in Old Nelson Street between 1am and 1.30am on Saturday.

The man was with a friend and was crossing the road when a black Renault Clio-type car stopped in the road behind them.

There was a short dispute and two men who were in the vehicle then got out and became verbally abusive towards the 53-year-old and his friend. A scuffle ensued and the 53-year-old victim was assaulted.

One attacker was 6ft, had fair coloured brush forward hair and was wearing a white T-shirt. The other man was about 5ft 7in and has dark hair and wearing a black jacket.

There were two women also in the car and one had long wavy dark hair and the other had a thin build.

Anyone with information about the incident or those involved is asked to call PC 1683 Baldwin at Lowestoft Police Station on 01986 835300.
