A suspected DVD pirate has been arrested after an early morning raid near Southwold yielded more than 600 counterfeit discs.

The Suffolk Trading Standards Department-led raid netted DVDs said to have a street value of £11,000.

Among the discs were box sets of hit TV series including Breaking Bad, Homeland, The Walking Dead and Supernatural.

Films also formed part of the haul discovered at the 27-year-old male suspect's home.

These included Disney's Frozen and Little Mermaid – Ariel's Beginning.

The investigation revolves around the alleged selling of pirate DVDs over the internet.

Apart from trading standards officers, police and representatives from the Federation Against Copyright Theft also took part in the raid.

A search was carried out of the man's property, which is located on the outskirts of Southwold.

Officers also seized two computers, a mobile phone and paperwork. These will be thoroughly analysed as part of the inquiry.

The seizures happened last Wednesday.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Tradmark Act. He was taken to Great Yarmouth Investigation Centre for questioning before being released on bail until February 2, pending further inquiries.

Suffolk County Council cabinet member for public protection Colin Spence: 'This operation enforces the stance that Suffolk Trading Standards take against criminals who trade in, or are suspected of trading in, illegal goods.

'I would urge consumers to steer clear of fakes, they are not the bargain they are made out to be.

'I would also advise businesses to take extra care if offered stock from an unknown source. Fakes are a menace to legitimate businesses. Consumers should think twice before supporting the criminals who profit from making and distributing counterfeit goods.

'Suffolk Trading standards will continue to actively investigate the supply of fakes, and will take the appropriate action against those individuals.'
