Man jailed for assault

A man who admitted assaulting his ex-girlfriend in front of her eight-year-old daughter was yesterday jailed for three months. Matthew Pryor, of Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, admitted assaulting Samantha Cosgrove on January 21.

A man who admitted assaulting his ex-girlfriend in front of her eight-year-old daughter was yesterday jailed for three months. Matthew Pryor, of Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, admitted assaulting Samantha Cosgrove on January 21.

Tess James, prosecuting at Lowestoft magistrates' court, said Pryor, 27, grabbed Miss Cosgrove by the throat when she asked him to leave her house. He pushed her on to the sofa while pulling her hair, screamed verbal abuse at her and threatened to stamp on her head.

District Judge David Cooper said Pryor “acted disgracefully” by causing an unprovoked and drunken assault and that the incident must have been terrifying for Miss Cosgrove's young daughter.
